So…. in the spirit of spontaneity, Tim and I decided to book a last-minute weekend getaway to Kuala Lumpur!!! It’s the THIRD time I’ve visited KL* in the last year which interestingly enough, prior to my first visit, Malaysia wasn’t even on my radar!
However, with every visit, I’ve grown to love this Southeast Asian metropolis. It offers a true ‘melting pot’ experience: food shops selling Indian curry with flaky roti for less than 5 ringgit ($1.25), remnants of British colonial influence as made apparent by a strong presence of the English language, a thriving Chinatown positioned only a few blocks north of the Central Market housing traditional Malay crafts. You have to respect that even with all the cultural overlap, each individual ethnic identity is not muted out by one another. Every trip has altered my idea of what being “Malaysian” means, thereby revealing the definition that being “Malaysian” is a completely fluid concept: something that needs to be experienced in order to be learned.
… T-minus 4 hours until the flight! GOTTA GO!!!
