《 Indie Bookshop in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 》 It’s hard for me to pass up on a good bookstore and I can’t believe that I live only a short bike ride away from @harrietts_bookshop, a black + women-owned indie bookstore celebrating women authors, artists, and activities, and elevating #BIPOC voices. 📚
The minute you walk into the shop, it feels like you’ve stepped up into a comic book and there are so many thoughtful corners in this space: empowering quotes adorn the walls, uplifting neon signs light your way in the bargain-finds basement, and a painting of Harriett Tubman, the historic heroine that inspired the name of the bookstore, stands watch of all the visitors. It’s a special shop, opened in the middle of the pandemic, overcoming uncertain times and is now thriving! Frequented by locals and celebs alike, pick out a book from this thoughtfully curated collection as a memory of your time in Philly.

【SOMEWHERE IN PHILADELPHIA】 Before I go into a

【SOMEWHERE IN PHILADELPHIA】 Before I go into a Cuba deep dive, I wanted to share a life update that I didn’t really broadcast here: I MOVED TO PHILADELPHIA!! It was a a vv random move but the right one —being closer to home (i.e. Boston) while still having adventures in my life. With this being Valentine’s week, here is my little love letter to Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love, and the new home of my little family.❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Philadelphia is a mix of Boston, New York, and Baltimore with row homes standing side-by-side down gridded streets; a banging food scene; and nature escapes all an easy bike ride away. This is a historic place and fiercely community-driven. And did you know that this is the mural capital of the world?! Also the original LOVE statue is here right at LOVE Park! Here are some of my fave spots for first-time visitors ↠↠ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ◉ Like a local 🎭 Get ready to add the word “jawn” to your vocab. It’s a slang local term for basically anything. Like one of the ice cream spots here is called “Milk Jawn!” Get it?! I’m still learning.. but yeah, it’s a Philly thing.  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ◉ On my plate 🍽 Federal Donuts for their outlandish donuts, Middle Child Clubhouse for breakfast sandwiches, the red sourdough pizza from Hook and Master, and if you’re really curious, I’m still in search of my favorite cheesesteak spot. And can’t forget about Bok Bar in the summer for rooftop drinks.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ◉ Somewhere nice 🌞 The @phillymagicgardens is a mosaic garden featuring the work of Isaiah Zagar. But you can see his work all around South Philly for free!

◉ Secret Gem 📚 Named after Harriet Tubman, @harrietts_bookshop is an indie bookshop featuring WOC and activist authors. The interiors are painted in a 3D black and white effect.

【EIGHT DAYS IN CUBA: THINGS TO DO】 Aquamarine beaches. Mountain caves. Verdant tobacco farms. Taffy-colored buildings. 🇨🇺 I came to Cuba with a singular idea of the country and left with so many more versions of Cuba in my heart. The jewel of the Caribbean is more than its capital of Havana; it’s an island teeming with untouched biodiversity, a rich cultural heritage, where the days pass languidly and every person you meet is a historian, artist, and survivor. With the help of @cuban_adventures, I was able to cover so much ground in a short amount of time and am now left wanting more. Here’s the cities we visited in one week and my must-dos in each spot:

📍HAVANA: Zip around Old Havana in a vintage car with @rooflesscubantour .
📍VINALES: Visit a small tobacco farm and smoke a Cuban cigar.
📍CIENFUEGOS: Drink on the rooftop bar of Palaciao de Valle.
📍BAY OF PIGS: Go swimming at the Cueva de Los Peces, a saltwater denote.
📍TRINIDAD: Take a cooking class with Milagros at @milagroscasaparticular.
📍SANTA CLARA: Learn about the life of Che Guevara at his memorial.

This might have been my first visit, but it’s certainly not my last. I will see you again Cuba, Ojalá. ❤️🤞🏽
