Meet Scott and Megan, Travel Bloggers
The “Passport to People” interview series features inspiring, creative souls I’ve met while traveling.
He’s Bobo, she’s ChiChi and together, Scott and Megan make up the highly entertaining, insanely talented, and incredibly down-to-earth duo Bobo and Chichi.
Besides being known for their playful hyperlapse videos composited from millions of photos, these two are dear, dear friends of mine who have shepherded my blogging journey with their daily words of encouragement and counsel. Never have I met two people more dedicated to their craft and more generous of their time. In an industry dominated by competition, Scott and Megan stand out to me for their ability to see that success relies on collaboration and the spirit of community. I don’t think I would’ve made it this far without having them by my side. I was also extremely lucky that we all got to attend the TBEX Asia ’17 Conference in Manila last October, where they got a taste of Filipino hospitality. Scott and Megan started their blogging adventures as fellow American expats in South Korea and now are living the dream as full-time travelers, having recently visited Nepal, Israel, and New Orleans. Impressive much?
Hello to my favorite blogging couple! So, I have to start with this question: how long have you two been dating?
5 years in February!
What is your favorite thing about traveling?
Constantly meeting new people, experiencing new things, seeing the beauty of the world, and learning something new every day.
What was the first trip you took together?
Stateside: a birthday weekend getaway in La Jolla, San Diego. Overseas: The moment Megan arrived in Korea 3 months after Scott’s move there!
What’s a song that puts you in the traveling mood?
Scott: Right now, “I Feel So Bad” by the Kungs!
Check out Scott’s hyperlapse video skills (and in 1080 HD if you can!)
So let’s jump into the couple talk! Do you guys have a tradition you like to adhere to when traveling?
We always establish a date night. This is one night each week where we unplug from our computers and lives as bloggers and just go out and live in the moment whereever we are. These nights can be spent splurging on a dinner, watching the sunset with a drink, or watching a movie together.
Have you two fallen into certain roles when managing your trips?
Megan: Researching and finding hidden gems in the world and making terrible situations fun somehow.
Scott: Finding travel deals and being flexible on the fly whenever something doesn’t work out.
Is there a keepsake one of you has gotten for the other on a trip that remains sentimental?
Megan: Scott had business class seats on a flight from Manila to LA from a speaking event, and I had economy class. My birthday was two days earlier so Scott gave me his ticket so I could fly in style on my birthday.
What’s the most romantic thing you’ve done while traveling?
Megan: In Hawaii, Scott tricked me into thinking we were shooting a hyperlapse video and was really proposing to me. You can watch the video here.

You, unfortunately, have been condemned to die, but fortunately, you get to have any meal in the world before you go. What is your menu?
Megan: Loaded Nachos with a side of Tapatio hotsauce.
Scott: A tasty bowl of Chicken Tikka Masala, mint chutney, and garlic naan.
What’s your best travel-related investment?
Megan: All the lenses and gear for Scott’s camera.
Scott: My camera.
What is the oddest thing you’ve ever done?
Megan: Eating curry out of a toilet shaped bowl at Modern Toilet in Taipei.
Scott: Going to a restaurant decked out with penises from the plates to wall decorations in Korea.
What was a memorable ‘first’ abroad?
Megan: Getting my ears pierced drunk on soju my first week living in Korea.
Scott: Moving and living abroad completely out of my comfort zone.
Here are some pictures taken on Scott and Megan’s travels…
You have just won a trip around the world! List twelve cities on your flight path.
Both: We would pick places neither of us have ever been Reykjavik – Berlin – Moscow – Madrid – Marrakesh – Madagascar – Mauritius – Colombo – Yangon – Beijing – Hong Kong – Anchorage.
Tell us about your worst vacation experience.
Megan: Getting Bali Belly for 6 weeks.
Scott: Getting giardia in India and losing 40 lbs.
What a true hidden gem of an establishment you’ve stumbled upon?
Both: Koh Ta Kiev in Cambodia
Do-it-yourself or pre-packaged experiences?
Both: We like do-it-yourself experience because then we can be extremely flexible. If we really like a place we will stay as long as we need. We have extended our trip to Laos from a few weeks to two entire months this way!
Best purchase abroad.
Both: LASEK eye surgery in Seoul and anything we need done medically!
What’s an activity you want to experience on your travels?
Megan: See the Silverback Gorillas in the wild.
Scott: Experience the Aurora Borealis.

Love the profile! Me next! Me next! Your graphics flow so well they must be done personally by you. They make a great tag team blogging couple. The hyperlapse and the photos are amazing! I need those skills! Having a partner in crime to do all these trips must be an absolute blessing. I’ve been putting off that laser eye surgery for too long. I need to pull the trigger!
scott
@Brian thanks so much for your kind words. It is definitely a blessing having a partner help with creating content but also planning the trips, keeping spirits up, and just having someone to vent/work with. Although I didn’t get the eye surgery, both of us can’t recommend it enough! Our friends also made the trip there to do it and they loved it as well! Best of luck!

Thanks for the feature Izzy, so fun to have spent time in Manila with you and get to know you. Hope we will meet up again soon.

Awesome job writing this up, Izzy! I particularly like the passport-style graphic at the start… your design skills are great! This is my first time checking out the redesign of your site, and you did an excellent job. I think it’s high time I overhauled mine… it’s been a few years.
Scott and Megan, yours is an awesome blog, and one of the ones I check to see if you’ve been to a place I’m planning on visiting. Keep up the awesome work, and hopefully our paths will intersect at some point in the future!
Karla
What a lovely couple! I’ve been reading their blogs too. When I was in Korea, I check out their things to do before going to one place.
Izzy, I like how you created the graphics! I also like the questions you gave them. It’s not the usual questions asked for featured bloggers I read in other sites. Great job!
Shelley
I always wondered which one was Bobo, and which one was Chichi, and now I know!! 😉 Awesome write-up and profile on 2 amazing bloggers that that really do something unique, like you said, in a down to earth way. (plus the graphics really are fantastic). But I’m super surprised you guys haven’t been to HK!! It’s so close to Korea!!!
Wendy
I am in awe of this couple. At first it was just Scott’s incredible hyperlapse videos and Megan’s beautiful profile. She makes for his great model and it’s amazing to have that kind of pair. And then the proposal post and hyperlapse video happened. That made it even more personal and it’s just great to be following this too. From where I’m reading, I enjoyed your meet-up in the Philippines, too. Sad though that I never got to meet them. They lived near DMC while here in Seoul. Kudos to you Izzy for a great feature!
Natasha
Hummm.. where to start. Writing about other people in the form of an interview is a super cool way to promote the people you care about, establish even tighter connections with them, gain new subscribers on either side, and promote yourself. Such a fabulous move! Also, the hyperlapse movie is friggin creative and captivating! Your questions, izzy, were great, easy to answer and suitable for the occasion. Great write-up!!!!

Hallie

Loved reading about Scott and Megan. Have been following their blog for some time. The best thing I liked about their interview was the fact that they set away a Date night where they literally unplug. For us bloggers it is really important to something on those lines, so that we immerse ourselves in the experience completely, and let go our blogger objective perspective for sometime atleast.
